CattCo IDA-Whitetail Country Sports World

In the heart of communities like our own, a new initiative is set to redefine engagement with outdoor sports and recreation. While our focus often rests on the vibrant life within Niagara Falls, the principles of growth, family, and community spirit resonate deeply across our region. This vision for a healthier, more connected community finds a powerful echo in a recent development just a short distance away.

The new owners of Whitetail Country Sports World in Olean are embarking on an ambitious plan to upgrade and expand the 40-year-old outdoor retail establishment. This significant investment promises not only to invigorate a beloved local business but also to create new opportunities for families and outdoor enthusiasts throughout Western New York, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared adventure.

Scott and Heather Kloss, the dedicated new proprietors, are spearheading this transformative project. Their vision extends beyond simply selling gear; they aim to cultivate a hub where individuals and families can deepen their connection to nature and develop lifelong skills in hunting, fishing, and archery. This commitment to community enrichment through wholesome activities reflects values cherished by many across our state.

A Vision for Growth and Family

The Klosses' investment in Whitetail Country Sports World is substantial, totaling $1.6 million. This significant capital infusion will breathe new life into the long-standing business, ensuring its continued presence as a cornerstone of the Olean community for generations to come. Such entrepreneurial spirit, rooted in a desire to serve and grow, is a testament to the American dream.

The expansion plans are comprehensive, adding an impressive 10,000 square feet to the existing structure, bringing the total footprint to 20,000 square feet. This nearly doubles the store's capacity, allowing for a much broader array of products and services. Local families, eager to explore new activities, will find a wealth of resources at their fingertips, from essential equipment to expert guidance.

Among the exciting new features planned are an indoor archery range and a state-of-the-art golf simulator. These additions will provide year-round opportunities for practice and enjoyment, regardless of the weather. Furthermore, the fishing and hunting departments will see significant expansion, catering to the diverse needs of seasoned outdoorsmen and newcomers alike, ensuring that traditions are passed down through generations.

A new firearms department is also on the horizon, alongside plans for a future indoor shooting range. These facilities will offer safe and responsible environments for training and recreation, upholding the importance of proper education and respect for sporting traditions. The Klosses are committed to ensuring that all aspects of their expanded offerings meet the highest standards of safety and community benefit.

Community Impact and Support

This expansion is poised to generate considerable economic benefits for the region. The project is expected to create 10 new full-time jobs, increasing the total workforce at Whitetail Country Sports World to 15 dedicated employees. These jobs represent stable employment opportunities, allowing families to thrive and contribute to the local economy, strengthening the fabric of the community.

The Cattaraugus County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) has played a crucial role in supporting this venture, approving a 10-year Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOT) agreement. This strategic partnership underscores the importance of local government in fostering economic development and supporting local businesses that serve the community's needs. Steve Teachman, Board Chair of the Cattaraugus County IDA, echoed this sentiment, adding, "The IDA is proud to support businesses like Whitetail Country Sports World that contribute to the vitality and character of our county." This support reflects a shared understanding that strong local businesses are integral to the health and happiness of the families they serve, providing not just goods but a sense of place and belonging.
